Start your skincare with... clean hands!

Before you start your skincare routine, there is one simple but extremely important thing to remember - wash your hands. Regardless of whether you're getting ready to wash your face, hair, or body, or perhaps touch up your makeup or reapply SPF during the day, ensuring your hands are clean is essential. But why is it so important?

During the day, our hands come into contact with countless objects - from mobile phones to door handles, which are breeding grounds for bacteria, viruses, and even residues of dust and grease. These microbes and impurities can easily transfer to our skin, leading to clogged pores, inflammation, irritation, and even the development of acne. What's more, when you touch your face during your skincare routine without washing your hands first, you expose your skin to harmful bacteria that can exacerbate skin problems.

Ensuring your hands are clean before every skincare routine is a simple step that can significantly improve your skin's condition. You reduce the risk of transferring bacteria, allowing the skin to regenerate without unnecessary obstacles. Clean hands also provide a fresh start for your complexion - because skincare is not just about cosmetics, but also about attention to details that bring spectacular results in the long term.

Smile first, beautiful skin second

Remember this simple rule: brush your teeth first, and then wash your face. Although it may seem like a minor detail, this small step can significantly impact the condition of your skin. Toothpaste, while crucial for oral health, often contains ingredients that can irritate the delicate skin around the mouth.

For example sodium fluoride, commonly used in toothpastes, can be irritating to sensitive complexions. Similarly sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), which is responsible for the toothpaste's foaming action, can also cause redness, dryness, and skin irritation. Whitening toothpastes, which often contain hydrogen peroxide, can further intensify these issues, causing dryness or peeling.

What's more, toothpaste residue, especially if it contains irritating ingredients, can contribute to cheilitis, which is an inflammatory irritation of the lips. That's why it's important to brush your teeth before starting your facial skincare. This way, you remove potentially harmful substances that could settle on the skin, minimizing the risk of irritation and imperfections.

By changing the order of your routine - brushing teeth first, then washing your face - you ensure the skin around your mouth stays in excellent condition.

Scalp massage with your own magic hands

A scalp massage is true magic for your hair - it boosts circulation, reduces stress, and can stimulate hair growth. You'll get the best results if you focus on the entire scalp - from the forehead, through the temples, to the nape of the neck. Such a massage improves circulation across the entire head, delivering more oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles, which can support healthy growth.

How to do it? The most important thing is to avoid excessive rubbing or irritation, while simultaneously gently moving the scalp during the massage. Circular movements that only touch the skin are relaxing, but moving the skin in combination with the massage can bring better results by stimulating larger areas to regenerate.

Scalp massage step by step:

  1. Start with your fingertips placed on your forehead at the hairline. Gently massage by moving the skin while performing small, circular motions.
  2. Move towards the temples and then across the entire head. Massage the back of the head and the nape in this way, gradually releasing tension.
  3. Focus on the entire scalp, remembering to move the skin gently without stretching it too much.

Regular massage using this technique can not only support hair growth but also provide a sense of relaxation, reduce tension in the temples and neck, and stimulate blood circulation, which positively affects the scalp.

Sleep - your skin's best treatment

In the world of beauty and skincare, we sometimes forget that the best spa is right at your fingertips - it is sleep. It's during the night that your skin regenerates most intensively, and a lack of sleep can lead to fatigue, a sallow complexion, and premature skin aging. Therefore, if you want to enjoy radiant skin, try to sleep at least 7-8 hours a day. It's worth creating your own evening rituals to help you relax and make falling asleep easier.

How to improve sleep quality? Here are some magic ways:

  • Chamomile infusion: Chamomile tea is a natural way to calm down and soothe yourself before bed. It helps relax the body and prepare it for rest.
  • Lavender oil: One drop on your pillow is enough to calm the senses and facilitate sleep. Lavender has relaxing properties that can improve sleep quality.
  • Airing the room: Fresh air will make your sleep deeper and help your body recover better. Airing out the bedroom before bed is a simple trick to improve skin and body regeneration.
  • Optimal temperature: Maintaining a bedroom temperature of around 18-20°C promotes deep, regenerative sleep, which has a miraculous effect on your skin. Cooler air helps the body and skin rest better while preventing excessive sweating, which can disrupt nighttime regeneration.

Remember that adequate sleep is not just time for the body to rest, but for the skin as well. While you sleep, your skin repairs itself by renewing cells, resulting in a fresh, rested appearance in the morning.

Sleep like a princess - on your back for beautiful skin

Your sleeping position matters more than you might think, especially for your skin! Sleeping on your side or stomach can lead to creases on the face, which over time can turn into permanent wrinkles. The delicate facial skin is subjected to pressure for many hours, which can lead to irritation and premature signs of aging.

The best way to protect your skin is sleeping on your back. In this position, your face has no contact with the pillow, avoiding the pressure and friction that are main causes of creases and wrinkles. If you learn to sleep on your back, you can minimize these issues and maintain smoother, more rested skin.

Sleeping on your back is also beneficial for your health. In this position, the spine and neck remain in a natural alignment, which can help prevent back and neck pain. Furthermore, you don't put pressure on internal organs, which promotes respiratory health. Calm breathing supports the body's regeneration.

Dermatologists confirm that sleeping on your back reduces pressure on the facial skin, which in the long run delays wrinkle formation and minimizes irritation. This makes your sleep a time for both body and skin regeneration, helping to keep it smooth and radiant.

However, I must admit that even though I know the benefits of sleeping on my back, I don't always follow this rule. I love sleeping snuggled up to my partner, "spooning," and although this position isn't ideal, we don't have to be perfect in everything. Sometimes comfort and closeness with a loved one are simply more important than the ideal sleeping position. The most important thing is to find a balance between healthy habits and what brings us joy!

Regularly change your pillowcase - for skin without surprises

Your pillow is a secret collector - oils, dirt, skincare residues, and even sweat... everything accumulates on the pillowcase. While you sleep, all of this has direct contact with your face. If the pillowcase isn't changed regularly, it can lead to breakouts, irritation, and clogged pores. That's why it's so important to change the pillowcase every few days, so your skin has clean and fresh contact with the material every night.

A small hack for the lazy (because who doesn't like to cheat the system sometimes?): if you don't want to change the pillowcase every day, you can use both sides! Sleep on one side one night, and the next - flip the pillow over. It's a clever "flip and wash later" approach - two sides of the pillowcase mean twice as much clean surface before it goes into the laundry. Your pillow has two sides after all, so it's worth using them!

Regularly changing pillowcases is not just a matter of hygiene, but of skincare. it prevents the buildup of bacteria and dirt that can cause skin problems like breakouts or redness.
