What are monoperfumes?

Monoperfumes are single-note perfumes built around one, distinct note. The formula is intentionally simple and pure, so as to maintain a consistent character of the scent.

Such an effect is achieved in two ways: through high-quality natural extract or a dominant scent molecule - appropriately selected molecules. Small technical additions only play the role of a background, stabilizing and sharpening, so you feel that one beloved scent.

In practice, monoperfumes do not mean one ingredient in the recipe, but one olfactory motif. The entire fragrance composition is designed so that you feel primarily this one beloved note - without distractors, clearly and consistently.

Single-note perfumes vs. classic compositions

In classic perfumes, many fragrance notes are arranged in a pyramid - head, heart, and base notes - and the scents change over time. Monoperfumes focus on linearity without the classic fragrance pyramid. One note leads the whole from beginning to end.

From behind the scenes, it looks a bit different.

In a complex composition, a perfumer combines dozens of ingredients with different volatility, reaches for projection enhancers and fixatives, building projection and sillage. In monoperfumes, the goal is unity of theme - raw materials and molecules with a similar evaporation rate are selected, and additives are transparent. Such a recipe requires maximum precision and great quality of raw materials, because every nuance is felt immediately.

Such a construction of mono-scents perfectly supports layering. A simple, clean motif combines without clashes with other perfumes, allowing you to create your own combinations without the risk of olfactory chaos.

Single-note perfumes in practice - examples

Not every material can carry a solo role. Rich, multi-dimensional notes such as cinnamon or sandalwood work well. Light citruses will remain fresh and shorter, even at high concentration. That's their nature. Differences in perception therefore result from the theme of the perfume.

Single-note compositions with musks or amber will be subjectively fuller and longer, and floral and fruity ones lighter and closer to the skin. Perfume concentration helps, but does not change the character of the notes - this is consistent with what we wrote about longevity in the section “perfumes”.

How to start perfume layering?

Layering perfumes is simpler than you think. Especially if you have high-quality monoperfumes at your disposal. All you have to do is:

• If you love perfumes and want the scents to be truly yours, start with the note that moves you the most or choose a theme, e.g., flowers.

• Combine two or more monoperfumes or add a monoperfume to your favorite classic perfume. This is much easier than mixing two complex compositions.

• Combine similar notes for harmony or contrast - the choice is yours.

• Spray perfumes in the same place, waiting a moment, or choose different scents for your wrists, neck and cleavage, for a more spatial effect.

Remember these rules:

• First use heavier notes (thanks to this they will be closer to the skin), then add lighter ones (they will stay on top) for order and clarity of the effect.

• Less is better - start by testing simpler compositions, and if you like the effect, add more elements.

• Test on the wrist, wait a moment, let the scent develop. If you smile - it's a good choice.

Why does it work? Body gels and soaps as well as bath salt leave a light shadow of aroma and set your mood already during cleansing. Emollients from the lotion and cream “catch” the scent molecules and seal the scent layer, thanks to which longevity increases, and the projection is smoother and more even.

Tip from Söppö: first cleansing and care, wait 1-2 minutes, and then 1-2 short sprays of perfume. For the day, the care base + spray of perfume is enough; for the evening you can add another layer of perfume.
