Step-by-step facial cleansing
Facial cleansing is a very important stage of face care. Regardless of whether you have sensitive skin or oily skin, thorough facial cleansing should be the foundation of your care routine, morning and evening, regardless of skin type. If you neglect facial cleansing, imperfections will appear on your skin, and you will contribute to faster aging of the facial skin. Poorly cleansed skin simply doesn't look its best. Step-by-step facial cleansing in the comfort of your home is crucial for deep cleaning of the skin and maintaining healthy skin. And this should be the foundation of your care. However, from time to time, it is worth going for professional cleansing treatments at a good cosmetologist.
Cleansing the skin morning and evening - why is it important?
To care for the condition of your complexion, ensure proper facial cleansing in the morning and evening. During the day, impurities such as smog, dust, and grime settle on our faces. If such residues remain on the skin's surface, you will damage the condition of your complexion. Before sleep, wash away the accumulated dirt from the skin's surface, as well as excess sebum, makeup residues, and skincare products.
Is washing your face only in the evening enough? In our opinion, it's worth washing your face twice a day: morning and evening, not just in the evening. While you are sleeping soundly, your skin is constantly working. It produces sweat and sebum, and also picks up dust from the pillow (it's worth washing it regularly!). Before you apply makeup and skincare, use morning skin cleansing. Prepared skin will better absorb the cosmetics applied to it, improving its condition. Morning facial cleansing is just as important as evening face washing.
Consequences of skipping facial cleansing
It's not worth skipping this care step; facial cleansing is extremely important, and if you want your healthy skin to stay in top condition, wash your facial skin carefully. Neglected skin without thorough makeup removal, facial skin cleansing, and with residues of dead skin cells will not impress with its condition, color cosmetics applied to it will look worse (foundation will start to roll), and skincare will start to harm you instead of helping.
Leaving dirt, excess sebum, and cosmetics on the complexion violates its natural protective barrier and causes the accumulation of skin cells. This is the fastest way to suffer from peeling problems and imperfections. Sebum and dead skin cells in combination can cause skin pores to clog. Avoiding facial cleansing can lead to problems with inflammation, contribute to the formation of blackheads and acne.
Insufficiently cleansed skin where impurities and dead skin cells reside will not absorb all the nutrients you would like to provide with your skincare cosmetics. This can lead to a loss of skin elasticity and faster wrinkle formation. Without correctly performed facial cleansing, the skin becomes poorly oxygenated, losing freshness and glow.
Skin cleansing - effects of regular face washing
If you spend a little time washing your face in the morning and evening, your skin will reward you with a healthy skin tone. Because washing your face perfectly refreshes the skin, reduces signs of fatigue, making the skin look younger, and the skin becomes smoother and firmer. It's worth cleansing your face to support epidermal renewal processes and delay skin aging processes.
Regardless of skin type, daily cleansing will bring you a range of benefits. Thanks to thorough cleansing, even dry and sensitive skin will gain glow, and you will forget about skin irritations. Meanwhile, mixed and oily skin will reduce the visibility of pores, limit acne formation, and balance sebum production. So wash your face and enjoy clean skin in excellent condition!
Mistakes we make when cleansing facial skin
Lack of regularity in washing is one of the most common mistakes we make during face care. Let skin cleansing become your daily ritual. Washing your face in the morning will be more stimulating than coffee. And after the whole day, remove your makeup, wash your teeth, and cleanse your skin. Your sleep will be much more pleasant.
Another mistake is the wrong frequency of face washing. It's worth washing your face no more (and no less) than twice a day: morning and evening. Washing too often can lead to skin dehydration or overproduction of sebum by triggering the skin's defense processes. And too rarely – well, you already know.
A poorly chosen cleansing method is also a significant mistake we happen to make. Evening treatments related to the removal of color cosmetics and SPF creams should be carried out in two steps. First, by performing thorough makeup removal (cleansing oil, bi-phase liquid, micellar water), and then moving on to the actual cleansing (face wash gel). Morning facial cleansing is sufficient to perform in one step (using a gel or oil).
The wrong choice of cleansing cosmetics is another mistake. If you have very dry and sensitive skin, an oil with an emulsifier may be the right product for you both in the morning (for washing) and evening (for washing and/or makeup removal). Thus, perhaps you only need one product. Oily and combination skins generally prefer washing with a gel in the morning, and in the evening, makeup removal with an oil and actual washing with a face gel. To get rid of sebum deep inside the hair follicles, you don't need to reach for alcohol-based preparations and regular soap, which can disturb the skin's pH and irritate it. A gentle gel will also handle it. An excess of artificial dyes and fragrances can cause allergic reactions, but if they don't sensitize you, you can use them without concern.
Avoid harsh rubbing while washing your face. Thorough makeup removal does not mean violent rubbing of the skin with a cotton pad. Personally, we rarely reach for micellar waters. Wiping the face with a cotton pad soaked in micellar water can be too harsh for the skin. Therefore, we prefer cleansing oils, thanks to which you can perform a gentle facial massage during face washing. This does not mean that micellar waters are bad, but be careful when rubbing your face with a cotton pad.
Insufficient rinsing of cosmetics is the last mistake. Even the best micellar waters and other face-washing cosmetics should be rinsed off with water. They are rinse-off products for a reason. Micellar waters must also be washed off with water. Micellar water left on the skin can irritate it. Therefore, when washing your face with micellar water or face gel, always rinse it off with water.
What cosmetics to use for face washing?
Instead of using regular soap, try to find the right cosmetic for your skin. One that will thoroughly wash away impurities from your complexion and at the same time be gentle on it. If after washing your skin feels tight, stings, or you have a feeling of dryness, it means the product is too strong for you! And it harms the hydrolipid barrier, which will no longer protect our skin against irritations.
In the composition of cleansing cosmetics, you should watch out for the strength of the detergents used in it. Choose gentle cleansing substances in combination with active ingredients. Avoid alcohol-based preparations. The cosmetic must cleanse the skin while supporting its protective barrier and microbiome. Therefore, it's worth reaching for products rich in ferments, soothing and moisturizing substances such as provitamin B5. You will find such a composition of active ingredients in our face wash gel. Your facial skin will be delighted with it. Besides cosmetics, you might find the following facial cleansing tools useful: a facial cleansing brush, a hair band, or cotton pads.
Facial cleansing step by step: how to properly cleanse the face?
Morning facial cleansing can be performed in one step, as there are not many impurities on your skin yet.
If you have dry, mature, and sensitive skin, you can wash your face with a cleansing oil. Apply it to dry facial skin, perform a pleasant massage, and then rinse it off with water. Plant oils will dissolve impurities without disturbing the hydrolipid barrier, and the emulsifier content will ensure the oil rinses off with water. You can also wash your face with a gel. Optionally, you can refresh the skin with a hydrolate, herbal infusion, or face toner. This way you'll get rid of sebum and sweat. However, this will not be a good solution if you are prone to acne and sebum overproduction. If you have oily, mixed, or problematic skin, reach for a face gel.
And what after facial cleansing? You can apply toner, cream, and makeup to the skin!
How to cleanse facial skin before sleep - one or two steps?
In the evening, you can cleanse the skin in one or two steps. If you applied makeup or SPF cream during the day, first perform makeup removal using an oil, and then move on to cleansing the skin with a gel. Wash your hands thoroughly and splash your face with water. Then apply the gel to your hands and spread it on moistened skin. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, leaving no cosmetic residue on the complexion. If you didn't apply makeup to the skin, you can proceed as you did in the morning, washing it with oil or gel.
And what after cleansing? You can perform a face scrub, which will also cleanse your skin and help you get rid of dead skin. Then apply toner, serum, face mask, or face cream.
Is facial cleansing at a beautician's good?
Treatments performed at a beautician's are a great supplement to home care. They will positively influence the improvement of the appearance and condition of the skin. An experienced cosmetologist will choose the right treatments based on your skin's condition and take care of your skin. You can decide, for example, on cavitation or microdermabrasion, acid treatments, or manual cleansing.
Treatments in professional salons can be very effective, and if you can afford them, it's worth going for a moment of relaxation with someone who will take comprehensive care of your complexion. However, without proper home care, you will not adequately care for the condition of your facial skin.
How much does a facial cleansing treatment cost?
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide an exact price for facial cleansing at a beautician or cosmetologist. Treatment prices vary depending on the salon (often also on the professional we choose: more experienced staff usually have higher prices than new personnel), the treatment we choose (manual cleansing will be cheaper than cleansing requiring specialized equipment), the cosmetics used during and after the treatment, etc.
How often should facial cleansing be done?
While at home you should cleanse your face twice a day. It is also worth performing a scrub at home from time to time, but no more than once a week. In contrast, at a cosmetologist's, a single treatment may not give a satisfactory effect, and usually, a whole series of treatments repeated at intervals is required.
What can't you do after facial cleansing?
Irritation may occur after facial skin cleansing. Therefore, it is better to treat the skin gently. Do not apply makeup directly after cleansing. Apply sunscreen to your face and avoid sun exposure. Follow the post-treatment recommendations provided by your cosmetologist.
Take care of facial cleansing
Proper facial cleansing, both at home and in a beauty salon, will help you in the pursuit of a fresh and radiant complexion that not only looks good but also young. Facial cleansing is a guarantee of healthy skin.
